Atomic Bitchwax — Hope You Die bass tabs

Artist: The Atomic Bitchwax
Song: Hope You Die
Album: The Atomic Bitchwax
Bassist: Chris Kosnik
Tabbed by: LedZeplica

Kosnik has his own unique effect, which he uses alot on this song. The best
way I can describe it is a synthesized flanger, or maybe a distorted flanger.
Anyways, I just use a synth effect and it sounds enough like it to work.

h = hammer on
p = pull off
b = bend string up

This is a really cool song.. The focal point of the song is the lyrics, so
during the verses the musical talent is a little lacking. But it picks up..

Here's the verse riff, repeat it alot..
G|—————————
D|—————————
A|—3——5————
E|—————————

Then play Riff 2..
G|———————————————————————————————————
D|———————————————————————————————————
A|—5—5—5—5—————0—3—5—5—5—5—————0—3———
E|—————————3p0—————————————3p0———————

G|——————————————————————————————————
D|—————————————————————3————————————
A|—5—5—5—5—————0—3—5—5——————————————
E|—————————3p0———————————3——————————

Then the second verse riff is the same as the first verse..
Then play riff 2 again..

Then play Riff 3 for the chorus..
G|————————————————————————————————————
D|—————3—3—5b——5——5—3—————————3—3—————
A|—5—5————————————————5—3—5—5—————————
E|————————————————————————————————3———

Then to end the chorus play this..
G|—————————————————————————————
D|————————————————5—5——5h7—————
A|—5—5——7—7——8—8———————————————
E|—————————————————————————————

Then play the verse riff again..
Then Riff 2..
Then Riff 3 again for the chorus..

To end this chorus, play this twice..
G|—————————————————————————5h7—
D|————————————————5—5——5h7—————
A|—5—5——7—7——8—8———————————————
E|—————————————————————————————

Then there's a little break, where the bass plays this.. its just riff 2 with
a slight variation..
G|————————————————————————————————
D|————————————————————————————————
A|—5—5——5—3—0—3—5—5——5—3—0—3——————
E|————————————————————————————————

G|————————————————————————————————
D|————————————————2—3—————————————
A|—5—5——5—3—0—3—5—————————————————
E|———————————————————3————————————

Then play riff 2..
Then Riff 3 for the chorus..

Then to end this chorus, play this three times..
G|—————————————————————————5h7—
D|————————————————5—5——5h7—————
A|—5—5——7—7——8—8———————————————
E|—————————————————————————————

And then play this for the ending..
G|—————————————5h7—5h7—5h7——5h7——5h7——5h7———————————
D|————————————————————————————————————————5h7———————
A|—5——5——5——5—————————————————————————————————8——5——
E|——————————————————————————————————————————————————

And thats it.

About Atomic Bitchwax

The Atomic Bitchwax are a rock band formed in the mid 1990s by Chris Kosnik of Atlantic Records "Godspeed", Keith Ackerman and Ed Mundell of A&M Records "Monster Magnet" from Long Branch, New Jersey. The band's first two albums, I and II, had a heavy psychedelic sound with roughly half of their songs containing only minimal vocals and the rest were instrumental. As the band's sound has progressed over the last 10+ years, a more traditional song writing approach was slowly realized by incorporating the band's signature "boxriff technique" with the Kosnik–Ryan dual vocal harmonies throughout their last three releases "TAB3, Boxriff and TAB4". The band also continues to tour live in North America and Europe for the last decade covering 15 countries.

How to Read Bass Tabs

Bass tablature (tabs) is an easy way to learn songs without needing to read traditional sheet music. Here’s a quick guide to understanding the symbols and techniques commonly found in tabs:

1. The Basics

  • Strings and Frets:

Each line in a tab represents a string on your bass:

    • The top line is the highest-pitched string (G on a 4-string bass).
    • The bottom line is the lowest-pitched string (E on a 4-string bass).

Numbers on the lines indicate which fret to press. For example:

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------------------|
    A|---3---------------|
    E|-------------------|

This means you play the 3rd fret on the A string.

2. Common Techniques

  • Hammer-On (h):

Play the first note by picking it, then press down on a higher fret with another finger without picking again.

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------5h7---------|

  • Pull-Off (p):

Pluck a note and then "pull off" your finger to let a lower fret ring.

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------7p5---------|

  • Slide (/ or \):

Move your finger up (/) or down (\) the fretboard while maintaining pressure.

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------5/7---------|

3. Advanced Techniques

  • Bend (b): Push the string up or down to raise the pitch. Example: G|-------7b9---------|
  • Vibrato (~): Shake the string slightly after playing a note to create a vibrating sound. Example: G|-------7~----------|
  • Muted Notes (x): Rest your finger lightly on the string without pressing a fret and pluck for a percussive "click" sound.

4. Rhythm and Timing

Tabs don’t always indicate timing, so listen to the song while reading the tab. Wider spaces between numbers mean longer pauses, while closer numbers indicate quicker notes.

5. Slap and Pop

  • Slap (s): Strike the string with the side of your thumb for a percussive sound.
  • Pop (p): Pull the string away from the fretboard and let it snap back.

Practice Makes Perfect

Tabs are a great tool to learn songs, but mastering the techniques takes practice. Listen carefully to the original track and play along to lock in the rhythm. Don’t rush — smooth, accurate playing is more important than speed. Happy jamming! 🎸
