You can use any tuning, I just use this as a warm up and to help with speed and strength.

My old teacher called it the spider exercise. Use your pointer for 1, 5, and 9. Use your middle finger for 2, 6, and 10. Use your ring finger for 3, 7, and 11. And use your pinkie for 4, 8, and 12. Might be kinda confusing but just "spider" your way up the frets until you get to the 12th fret.
