How to Read Bass Tabs

Bass tablature (tabs) is an easy way to learn songs without needing to read traditional sheet music. Here’s a quick guide to understanding the symbols and techniques commonly found in tabs:

1. The Basics

• Strings and Frets:

  Each line in a tab represents a string on your bass:

  • The top line is the highest-pitched string (G on a 4-string bass).
  • The bottom line is the lowest-pitched string (E on a 4-string bass).

  Numbers on the lines indicate which fret to press. For example:

This tab does not match the song. The first section is open E and double stop on the D abd G at the 9th fret. The chord would be Em or E5.

Next chords are D5/C#, D5, E5 played alternating D and G strings D fret 11 G fret 14, D fret 12 G fret 14, D fret 14 G fret 16.

Next chords are B5 and A5 played A fret 14 G fret 16, A fret 12 G fret 14
