BASS TAB:
BAND: Garbage
ALBUM: Version 2.0
TRACK: 5 — Special
PERSON WHO DID THIS TAB: Paul Simpson , [email protected]
If you're going to download this, copy it into notepad because
that's where I wrote this and all the tabs and stuff will be in
the right places.
It took me ages to figure out this because there is a deep drum
and it's hard to figure out whether the note is bass or the
drum. I'm sure it's correct now though.
The bass for this song is the same tune over and over in different
keys, so what I will do is tell you what the keys are and then go
through with the lyrics telling you what key to play. It will be
really hard to figure out the timing because tab is stupid, but
I'll try my best to tell you the timing.
Tune E string to E flat (tune for E with finger on fret one)
Tune A string to A flat (to make note transition easier)
KEY:
One space = half a beat (8th note)
_________= Hold the note
E.g.: A—14——— = play A—1 followed by A—4 as 2 8th notes.
It's not fourteen, it's one and then four.
A—1_ = Hold this note for one beat (1/4 note)
A—1__ = Hold this note for 1 &1/2 beats (dotted 1/4)
A—1_____ = Hold this note for 3 beats (dotted 1/2)
A—1_______ = Hold this note for 4 beats (whole note)
A—1_______________=Hold this note for 8 beats
(2 linked whole notes)
Ok then, here are the keys to play:

F KEY: (this one is a little irregular)

D—————————————————
A————————————————— (F is on fret 2 because string is tuned

A# KEY:

D—————————————————
A—2_2_—2_—2_2_—2__ (A# is on fret 2 because string is tuned to

There, that's it. I hope it won't take you too long to get the
timing right and all that. But if you really want to get it
right your local music store would probably be able to order
(if it doesn't have in stock) the sheet music for this song.

Bass tablature (tabs) is an easy way to learn songs without needing to read traditional sheet music. Here’s a quick guide to understanding the symbols and techniques commonly found in tabs:
Each line in a tab represents a string on your bass:
Numbers on the lines indicate which fret to press. For example:
G|-------------------| D|-------------------| A|---3---------------| E|-------------------|
This means you play the 3rd fret on the A string.
Play the first note by picking it, then press down on a higher fret with another finger without picking again.
G|-------------------| D|-------5h7---------|
Pluck a note and then "pull off" your finger to let a lower fret ring.
G|-------------------| D|-------7p5---------|
Move your finger up (/) or down (\) the fretboard while maintaining pressure.
G|-------------------| D|-------5/7---------|
G|-------7b9---------|
G|-------7~----------|
Tabs don’t always indicate timing, so listen to the song while reading the tab. Wider spaces between numbers mean longer pauses, while closer numbers indicate quicker notes.
Tabs are a great tool to learn songs, but mastering the techniques takes practice. Listen carefully to the original track and play along to lock in the rhythm. Don’t rush — smooth, accurate playing is more important than speed. Happy jamming! 🎸
