Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc. (The Correct Version) Bass Tab

About Gorillaz

Gorillaz is a musical project created in 1998 by Damon Albarn of Britpop band Blur and British cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl. In the mainstream and commercial outlets it is known as a "virtual band" because for their image and promotion, instead of displaying the musicians of the band, it has used a group of comic book characters. The "virtual band" is composed of four animated members: 2D (lead vocalist, keyboard), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar and occasional vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion). The music is a collaboration between various musicians, Albarn being the only permanent musical contributor. Their style is a composition of multiple musical genres, with a large number of their influences including: dub, hip hop, alternative rock, electronic and pop music.

How to Read Bass Tabs

Bass tablature (tabs) is an easy way to learn songs without needing to read traditional sheet music. Here’s a quick guide to understanding the symbols and techniques commonly found in tabs:

1. The Basics

  • Strings and Frets:

Each line in a tab represents a string on your bass:

    • The top line is the highest-pitched string (G on a 4-string bass).
    • The bottom line is the lowest-pitched string (E on a 4-string bass).

Numbers on the lines indicate which fret to press. For example:

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------------------|
    A|---3---------------|
    E|-------------------|

This means you play the 3rd fret on the A string.

2. Common Techniques

  • Hammer-On (h):

Play the first note by picking it, then press down on a higher fret with another finger without picking again.

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------5h7---------|

  • Pull-Off (p):

Pluck a note and then "pull off" your finger to let a lower fret ring.

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------7p5---------|

  • Slide (/ or \):

Move your finger up (/) or down (\) the fretboard while maintaining pressure.

    G|-------------------|
    D|-------5/7---------|

3. Advanced Techniques

  • Bend (b): Push the string up or down to raise the pitch. Example: G|-------7b9---------|
  • Vibrato (~): Shake the string slightly after playing a note to create a vibrating sound. Example: G|-------7~----------|
  • Muted Notes (x): Rest your finger lightly on the string without pressing a fret and pluck for a percussive "click" sound.

4. Rhythm and Timing

Tabs don’t always indicate timing, so listen to the song while reading the tab. Wider spaces between numbers mean longer pauses, while closer numbers indicate quicker notes.

5. Slap and Pop

  • Slap (s): Strike the string with the side of your thumb for a percussive sound.
  • Pop (p): Pull the string away from the fretboard and let it snap back.

Practice Makes Perfect

Tabs are a great tool to learn songs, but mastering the techniques takes practice. Listen carefully to the original track and play along to lock in the rhythm. Don’t rush — smooth, accurate playing is more important than speed. Happy jamming! 🎸

@raphsk8: yeah I actually like that better bc tbh it sounds better lower and is easier to play when it's all in the same general area on the neck

@E-Stallion it means to hold the note on for longer/ letting the note ring
it sounds to me that the tune is half a tone lower?

I don't know about you guys but the slide to 11 is better if it's on the A string up to 6

technically this version is wrong cause if you listen to the song it actually starts on 5 not 6 but the problem is the bass in the song isn't tuned the way yours should be so for this song specifically it would be (Probably) a D on the thickest string, which would normally be an E. This is just fine it'll sound just like the bass line in feel good inc. but my point is if you were to play along with the original song these tabs won't match. honestly though, this is the only way to play it unless you switch the E for a D
I prefer this version、 because the music video pissed me off when I saw Murdoc playing and none of the other tabs seemed to matched。
Thanks!! 〈3
raphsk8 yeah cuz thats what he did in the music vid lol

That 11-9 on the E string during the breakdown can be played as 6-4 on the A, and you don’t have to shift so it’s a tad easier and sounds the same

for the intro riff - I think it sounds better (and more accurate) if you slide to the Eb/F# on the D string rather than the E

so rather than slide up to the 11 on the E - you slide to the 13 on the D

People find different things easy. I find Sax really easy (going for grade 7 atm) but bass (which I am trying to learn) feels really alien to me, meaning I find it immensely difficult. Ease is relative
why is everyones pfp justin beiber
