From the album "The Sky Moves Sideways"
This is my first tab and I would just like to say that I only want to make this piece as simple as possible.
Collin Edwin is one of my main inspirations to play bass as any bass line he comes up with is extremely juicy.
In this song, Collin improvises a bit so if you mix up any of the variations (as in play Variation #2 and #3 etc.)
it will still sound good. So don't be discouraged to play strictly the way the song is. Just play whatever variation
you feel is right and go for it. Ive organized the variations and chorus's like so just to not mix you up by putting
things all over. Ive thought of tabbing the entire song but that would just take lots of time but the tabs below is
basically a map of what to play. I recommend listening to the song for the rhythm (obviously) and to spot any
other variation I've missed. Enjoy and have lots of fun.

Porcupine Tree are a progressive rock band formed by Steven Wilson in 1987 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. Their music is difficult to categorize, being associated with both psychedelic rock and progressive rock, yet having been influenced by trance, krautrock and ambient due to Steven Wilson and Richard Barbieri's liking for the Kosmische Musik scene of the early '70s, led by bands such as Tangerine Dream, Neu! and Can. Since the early 2000s, their music has been leaning towards progressive metal.
Bass tablature (tabs) is an easy way to learn songs without needing to read traditional sheet music. Here’s a quick guide to understanding the symbols and techniques commonly found in tabs:
Each line in a tab represents a string on your bass:
Numbers on the lines indicate which fret to press. For example:
G|-------------------| D|-------------------| A|---3---------------| E|-------------------|
This means you play the 3rd fret on the A string.
Play the first note by picking it, then press down on a higher fret with another finger without picking again.
G|-------------------| D|-------5h7---------|
Pluck a note and then "pull off" your finger to let a lower fret ring.
G|-------------------| D|-------7p5---------|
Move your finger up (/) or down (\) the fretboard while maintaining pressure.
G|-------------------| D|-------5/7---------|
G|-------7b9---------|
G|-------7~----------|
Tabs don’t always indicate timing, so listen to the song while reading the tab. Wider spaces between numbers mean longer pauses, while closer numbers indicate quicker notes.
Tabs are a great tool to learn songs, but mastering the techniques takes practice. Listen carefully to the original track and play along to lock in the rhythm. Don’t rush — smooth, accurate playing is more important than speed. Happy jamming! 🎸
