A penalty for users

it could also circumvent the need to make new mods.. if a senior member reports a message the user gets blocked from posting until an admin looks into the situation? say anyone who has more then 4 or 500 posts being a senior member. or who has been here more then 8 or 9 months. This way if dude and johnny are away we can stop trolling. and fighting. amongst ourselves

I'm not just saying this because I've been nominated for mod status – I'm saying it because I AM a mod on another message board and have been for several years – but we have a number of senior members, and the more people who have authority, the less objective the doling of punishment will be. If one of those senior members has a personal grudge against a user, it won't take much for him or her to jump the gun and ban/suspend said user.

Such measures should be left to the admins and mods, period.

Id say we do it like this:

If the person makes 3 comments that each are either: offensive, vulgar, threating to someone on the site or bullying. They should be taking off comenting privileges for either 3 days or 1 week depending on the seriousness of such comments written.

If the person continues the same behavior they should be taking off the site, perminently, no exception. This is a place for music friends and good times not to make other people feel bad or inferior. This isnt a ring or a bully session its a musicians corner of music.

If the people who are messing around with other members apologize after their comments said, the y should be given a pardon but we should impliment the 3 strikes you are out system.

Nope, haven't been modded. Without giving too much away, all I can say is that I'm on the list of potential mods. If it happens, cool. If it doesn't, I ain't hatin'. I totally leave it up to the discretion of the admins.

I totally understand defending another user – within limits. If the defender is just as insulting and aggressive as the offender, should we let him get away with doing exactly what he's going after the offender for? Like I told someone else today via PM, somebody has to be the bigger person or the back and forth will only escalate until we have a flame war. Flame wars ruin a site's reputation. Ruined reputation results in less visitors – or at least, less QUALITY visitors.

If someone's being a jerk-off, it's as simple as reporting their message and letting the admins deal with it. That's what they're there for.
