Hey all,

Need some advice here…I have a Oscar Schmit OB100B acoustic/electric Bass…see below.
Currently, I have the stcok strings and looking to change them for a more smooth richer sound, if that makes sence? Any suggestions?

Carvin ships their acoustic/electrics with LaBella tapewound strings.

I like tapewounds for an upright bass sound, which might be the same as your ‘smoother, richer sound’. Carvin has the best price (about half what others ask) for these strings as well.

Hope that helps! Cheers.

You'll want to pay attention to string guages. The E string in the LaBella Deep Talkin' tapewound set is .115 You'll want to make sure the strings you pick up will fit in the nut slots on your bass, or be willing to enlarge (with a nut file) the slots. And once made wider, you can't make them smaller!

Thanks Sid…I'll look into them right away.

I have always played medium light Martin Phosphor Bronze on my Ovation Acoustic/Electric bass. They are round wound and therefore are a bit on the bright side but I prefer the tone. As far as I know they are designed specifically for use with acoustic/electric basses. They will not however replicate the sound of an acoustic upright and if this is your goal you should play tapewound or flatwound strings on a fretless acoustic/electric bass. That will be as close as you can get to an upright sound.
