Different Tunings
So, does anyone else not play songs because of different tunings?
I have a couple songs that i like, but they are not in standard EADG. I find that when i sit down to play, I just don't play those, so I'm not constantly tuning guitar up or down. I have a tuner pedal which makes it easier, but i just wanna play.
What are your thoughts?
simple tunings like drop d aren't too bad. for anything else I wish I had two bass guitars
Finally, someone who gets me
also, my tuner broke some weeks ago so even if I wanted I couldnt do anything. Thank God it was on regular tuning when it broke
Ya, I'm also too lazy to play songs with alternate tunings. I'm sure there will come a day when my desire to learn a song in an odd tuning will overcome my laziness, but that day has not yet come.
I used to do the exact same thing, play only songs in Standard E or Drop D because I'm a lazy tuner. But there's a lot of great stuff out there in Eb, Drop Db and Standard D that I enjoy playing, so I came up with a way to make it seem like less work: I create a play list in VLC player grouped by tuning. A bunch in standard E, then Drop D, then Eb, then Drop Eb, then D standard, and then add a few more in standard E so that when I'm finished, it's in tune for the next time I decide to sit and play.
I find I tend to feel less lazy about having to re-tune when there's a song sitting there on my play list beckoning me to play it lol
This was part of the reason I bought a five string. If the song goes below standard E, I take off the four string and plug in the five string.
That said, knowing how to change to a different tuning (and hopefully doing it quickly) is a skill that all of us should probably master - at least Drop D anyway..
Are you kidding me? I change tuning every 2-4 songs
I hate having to change from standard tuning but I made the effort for Lon's Nirvana tabs. It was fun & very interesting if a bit of an ordeal.
I'm a standard tuning kind of girl
Sorry if that was a total dick comment, I meant it as more of a playful statement. I'll play a little bit of Manson (Drop D), then some Mötley Crüe and Lamb Of God (D standard), Slayer and some mid ‘90s Megadeth (Eb), and finally some Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Kings Of Leon, etc (E standard). Occasionally if I’m feelin' it I drop to A standard for Evisceration Plague by Cannibal Corpse, but that's a hassle for one song
