Just curious, I've started directly playing music with bass myself.
I started out on guitar when I was young. I started playing bass around 6 years ago. I still play guitar, but now I also play bass and drums as well.
Always bass. Farted around with a guitar. Not for me. I am a Bassist
Forced to play bass for about 9 months. Don't really enjoy it very much so I just went back to guitar
I played guitar for years.
Bought a bass I saw in a charity shop and got into it from there.
Don't really play guitar at all now, it sounds weedy when I play it
I started playing the guitar than I switched to bass I have been playing bass for 5 and half years now.
I love this quote from Lamb Of God's bassist (I'm not hating on you guys): “Bassists are just failed guitar players.” When you think about it there are a lot of bassists who started out on guitar, but then switched to bass because it was easier for them.
And a numbers game. Many bands started by having a converted guitar player. W.A.S.P. For instance. Personally, I've always been partial to the feel of the bass. I would rather be a grooving bass player than just another crappy guitarist.
Specifically a crappy rhythm guitarist. I don't know why, but bassists always play rhythm. The only reason I do is because it's easier for me when singing and it gives me less to focus on at one time.

Well as you can see, it isn't the case for everyone :p
