The movie "whiplash"
So guys have you seen the movie whiplash? How accurately would you say that it portrays the life of a musician and the practice of a musical instrument? I'd say not very much
do you know of any movies where maybe the bass guitar has a more prominent role or a particular role in a scene (aside from scott pilgrim vs the world hehe)?
“I Love You Man”. Slappa da bass
“First bass” haven't seen it though but the protagonist plays the double bass (and it's very relevent for the movie)
That Thing You Do joked with the bass player by not giving him (tb player) a name.
And then the guy replacing him had a sweet little bass solo.
But that's all I can think of.
Ive got an old VHS tape called ‘Whiplash’, and apart from the wonky soundtrack it doesnt seem to be about music at all, theres a young lady trying to play some kind of wind instrument but shes not getting much of a tune out of it

Haha. Is she playing the flute? I think I saw that movie ;p
Crossroads, starring Ralph Macchio, has a crap-load of guitar playing in it. No real bass to speak of but the bluesy and classical guitar stuff is all kinds of awesome.

That was a good movie. With Steve Vai as the guitar playing devil
Yeah, totally blew my mind the first time I saw that flick back in the day. I looked at my best friend and was like dude, Steve Vai! His response: “Who?”
Some people, man…

Something to that effect. I've seen the movie several times because my wife and kids love the movie. But I believe the scene was the manager was replacing the band's bass player with some ugly studio musician. The remaining members of the band questioned the new guy's “skills”. Then he ripped out the solo, and the other bandmates took a big swallow and said something like he'll do…
I thought the movie was funny not giving the bass player (original player) character a name. Hitting the point that the bass player is so nonessential to the story and that bass players are not in the limelight, they didn't even bother with giving him a name.
Pretty funny.
