Good jazz bass lines?
Hi, I ama a beginner bassist and I want to prepare for playing in jazz band next year. What are good jazz bass lines to help me?
Most Jazz bass lines are improvised. Usually the chords are given to you and you can play whatever you want! Listen to jazz standards to get started (Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Benny Goodman are good bands to start with). As long as you understand how chords and scales work you should be fine. Lots of 1s 3s 5s and 7s
Check out Lydian scales, as opposed to Major scales, most Jazz is based around these
The only two I can remember are Miles Davis So What and Charles Mingus Haitian Fight Song
Thanks, these are really helpful!
