Trying to play some Cliff Burton
I would like to eventually play some challenging bass riffs from early Metallica but I need to know how to get the Cliff sound. Does anyone know if he uses any effect and what kind of amp he uses?
Any luck playing the Cliff riffs and getting his sound uncle_joe84?
It's not hard. Crash Course In Brain Surgery is simple. And all you have to do is keep bass all the way up, turn low mid 1/4 up, and then high mid and treble all the way up. Simple as that
On stuff like For Whom The Bell Tolls use wah and overdrive. I hope you know the intro is bass
I'm going to buy a Bass Big Muff Pi eventually. I heard he used to use it.
He used:
- Mesa Boogie D-180
- Electro Harmonix Big Muff pi(the bass big muff didn't even exist at that time)
- Tel-Ray Morley PWF
- Rickenbacker 4001 (mud-bucker installed in the neck position and a SD jbass pick up in the bridge)
- Aria SB1000/Black n' Gold (with a PJ-Marx pick-up routed in to the MB-1e pick-up)
- Rotosound .35-.90 strings
- Boss Compressor
His tone consisted of bright basses going through warm amps, his overdriven tone came from his Mesa(listen to the bass only versions of the songs from MOP and RTL and you'll see what I mean)

Cliff had a nice set up
Yes, yes he did. Hard to believe he's been gone for almost 28 years.
28 years! It's just totally insane and so unfair. A talented man taken away from the world far too early

September of '86 ten days shy of being 8 years to the day before I was born.
