You can play mandolin tabs on bass?
A friend plays a mandolin, looking at it the other day its the same tuning as 4 string bass GDAE.
Though I was playing it upside down (I am leftyh)so I may be wrong?
Would this work as a bass tab? I chose this one because its a tune everyone knows.

Never heard of it. Sounds like something Morrissey would play before one of his shows.
I kid. The answer is yes.
Not many people realise this, but J S Bach is one of the most important influences for bassists, theres a book, J S Bach for Bass which is essential reading.
By the way, Morrissey is a singer, he would probably get Andy Rourke to play it, who can be seen entertaining the troops before hitting the stage at Glastonbury, 1984, on my avatar
I know all about Mozz.
I meant to suggest that it would be something he would use as background music prior to the show beginning.
Is there any truth that Marr wrote the majority of the Smiths bass lines?
No, not at all. Marr met Rourke at high school, Rourke was already playing guitar when Marr decided to start playing. Rourke had a heroin problem and got the sack when Morrissey found out, they brought in the guitarist from Prefab Sprout to replace Rourke on bass but the guitarist couldn't play like Rourke which was an essential part of the Smiths sound so Rourke was re hired. Rourke and drummer, Mike Joyce were treated like shit by Morrissey and Marr, only being paid a wage and not allowed to do interviews, but try listening to a Smiths song without Rourkes bass lines and it just doesn't work. Check out ‘Barbarism Begins at Home’ pure Andy Rourke
I think I was wrong and the mandolin strings actually are tuned like a bass but upside down??? if you get me.
Apparently the the thickest strings are G's and the thinnest are E's ?
Anyway some cool replies, I really liked the smiths back in the 80's, gladiolis or not.
Marr did some great guitar on TheThe's Dusk, which to me was one of the most underrated albums of the 90's
Thanks Marko. The suggestion was brought up this past weekend and I thought it was nonsense.
It's funny that you bring up Barbarism Begins At Home. I have been using the below video to learn it. It's a bloody marathon!
Sorry Guinny, the video wouldnt work for me, if its live on ‘The Tube’ in 83 I know the one you mean, and yeah, its a real finger workout!!
I F@#$ING DID IT!
I finally nailed this song. Not once but twice. I AM A GOLDEN GOD! Lol.
When I first approached this song I really didn't think I would be able to get it down. For the last three weeks I have practiced this song - just here and there. Many times I became frustrated and wanted to give up, but I would just leave the song and come back the next day. I know I am rambling, a good few shots of Jameson will induce rambletardation, but I just wanted to say to all the beginner bass players, don't get frustrated, take your time, but always push yourself. The only difference between those that can and those that can't is practice.
and to Purplez - sorry for the thread high jack, dude.
Well done, did you get the little outro flurry as recorded on the Meat is Murder album?
