Playing along with songs
Anyone have suggestions for equipment or music players to play songs from my iPod through my amp? Would need an RCA or mini jack input with left and right channel outputs to connect with the amp. Just learning and want to play along and hear myself with the music.
bass amps are usually not good to play music on.. You're better off playing your ipod on some other speakers and using your amp just for bass
I am a new player, my starter amp came with hook ups and instructions on piping music through the amp-so the feedback is do not use the amp. Will this cause damage?
Since your amp is designed to allow you play music through it, follow the instructions and give it a go. If it works for you, great. If the sound quality is not good enough, try one of the things recommended above. Cheers.
An update on this topic. I went to Radio Shack and found a cable with a mini jack on one end that splits into Left and Right RCA jacks on the other. They have different lengths available. My starter amp is a Fender Rumble 15. I gave it a try for $10. Using my iPod the sound quality isn't stereo but good enough to play along with and fun to use. It actually works quite well-great for learning.
I just plug the bass in my amp, turn on my stereo & play away to a CD.
I use my mp3 player through my sound system, plug my bass into either my Kustom or Aria Pro amp, then record my self with my iPod, then I go back watch the recording for any mistakes then work on where I missed using my head phones.

That depends on what you are willing to spend. I have a little Coby sound system that I got for $70. It isn't the greatest thing out there, but it works for what I need. To suit your needs, I would recommend buying a PA system to use.
Pretty much do as icehouse1 does.
