The rule of thumb saying double the wattage of the guitar player is true. However, I've seen bass players gig with nothing more than a DI box running through the PA. Sound men hate for you to do this btw. Will the drums and guitar be loud? A combo amp like the Fender Rumble 100+ is suitable for most small jam situations and it has a built in DI out. I use one just for home practice.
