Song: 'We're Not Going To Take It'
Artist: Twisted Sister
Album: Stay Hungry (Atlantic)
Bassist: Mark 'The Animal' Mendoza
Tabbed By: JeffDiablo ([email protected])
Tuning: Standard (EADG low—to—high)
Performance Notes
~ = hold note
. = staccato
/ = slide up to note
The eighth notes in the intro are played with a triplet feel...easy to pick out
when listening to the recording. The verse chords are E—B—E—A then E—B—E—B.
I've tabbed out the passing notes as well as I can hear them. Normally I'm all for
experimenting and finding other patterns that fit the song but here they are part of the
hook and something people will listen for and expect. The two 'pre—chorus' sections go
E—F—F#—B as compared to other tab I've seen, usually E—A#—B—E. I like to mix it up and
play the E on the low daddy and the F—F#—B on the A string.

Twisted Sister is an American heavy metal band from New York City. Their work fuses the shock tactics of Alice Cooper, the rebellious mood of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and the extravagant image of glam rock bands such as New York Dolls notably for the makeup. Musically, the band implements elements of traditional heavy metal bands such as Judas Priest, along with a style that is similar to early glam metal bands. The band is generally categorized as glam metal for their earlier work, although the band does not consider themselves to be so.
Bass tablature (tabs) is an easy way to learn songs without needing to read traditional sheet music. Here’s a quick guide to understanding the symbols and techniques commonly found in tabs:
Each line in a tab represents a string on your bass:
Numbers on the lines indicate which fret to press. For example:
G|-------------------| D|-------------------| A|---3---------------| E|-------------------|
This means you play the 3rd fret on the A string.
Play the first note by picking it, then press down on a higher fret with another finger without picking again.
G|-------------------| D|-------5h7---------|
Pluck a note and then "pull off" your finger to let a lower fret ring.
G|-------------------| D|-------7p5---------|
Move your finger up (/) or down (\) the fretboard while maintaining pressure.
G|-------------------| D|-------5/7---------|
G|-------7b9---------|
G|-------7~----------|
Tabs don’t always indicate timing, so listen to the song while reading the tab. Wider spaces between numbers mean longer pauses, while closer numbers indicate quicker notes.
Tabs are a great tool to learn songs, but mastering the techniques takes practice. Listen carefully to the original track and play along to lock in the rhythm. Don’t rush — smooth, accurate playing is more important than speed. Happy jamming! 🎸
