Not a lot to update but got to keep this project alive. Put the fingerboard through the thicknesser, along with the neck, obviously, and re-sanded the profile, 20" in this case. I chose such a flat profile because I once had a go on a classical guitar and the fingerboard was almost flat and it was fantastic to play, fingering chords was a walk in the park. I've marked the nut position and the fret positions from that point. Confession time, I cheated at this point, I used a long piece of chamfered hardwood and marked the fret positions from my StingRay and transferred them onto the new fingerboard, there's a good reason for this, I can give you all the measurements for most guitar and bass scale lengths but you will need a very accurate and expensive Engineers 1 metre rule that goes down to 100s of an inch, also you will need the eyes of a Peregrine Falcon and a surgical scalpel to mark the wood.
There's a small Faux Pas on the headstock where I was a bit excited with the saw, this won't show on the finished neck as the headstock face will be black. In fact everything's going to be black, with the exception of the body binding, marker dots and gold headstock logo. The face of the body will be trans black over a flame maple veneer. That's it for now I'm starting to build the fretting jig now, I'll keep you posted.
Cool Marko.
There's an interesting build challenge on TalkBass.com right now - build a bass for less than $100. A member called Mapleglo is building a Marceline the Vampire Queen bass as part of this. The most interesting bit of it to me is her coming up with jigs and router sleds for her shaping. It is worth checking out:

Thanks Sid, I'll have a look, my pick up come to 90 quid so thats me out of the rumning lol
Unless you recycle a bass to make a bass for less than 100 dollars, I don't see how it's possible.
4 tuning machines will cost 60 on the cheap. A cheap bridge will cost 25, then the wood, hardware, strings, pickups, electronics… I just don't think it can be done.
Basically it's build a bass from scrap you have lying around. No name hardware from ebay, old parts… Read the thread at TalkBass and you'll see how they do it. It isn't build a nice bass for $100…it's build a bass that works.
I agree with you, Mark; you build a nice bass for that amount.
A Tea Chest, broom handle and a length of string and Bosh, a bass for $10. I didnt really give it much thought when Sid first mentioned it but a bass for under 100 dollars is a tall order. But then I got to thinking, if you made a plywood box, made a neck from some scrap hardwood, no truss rod or frets, used Violin pegs for tuners, a length of threaded bar for a bridge and a piece of metal tubing with holes drilled into it for a tailpiece then it could be done. I might accept the challenge! Back to reality, I'm spending close to 100 dollars just for specialist tools to make the neck!! For instance, Pax Guitar Saw for fret slots, £30, fret crowning file, £30 etc
Oh, I see.
How about a washtub, a broomstick, and a length of clothesline. $20, tops.
Crap, I just read Marko's post.
I really need to learn to read the rest of a thread before making any comments. Lol
Why do you have that notch sticking out at the heel?
