What do you have on the first fret? It looks like a capo - are you un-drop tuning with it? Tuned down a half step then using the capo at the first fret to come back to standard tuning?
I guess it would make sense - that would give you the sound of a fretted note when playing the open string - like the zero fret fret-boards you see every once in a while.

Nah, it isn't a drop tuning. It's a BEAD tuned bass, like the four lowest strings of a fiver. I used the capo, because the lowest note of the song is a C. I'm lazy you C…
